How does sedation dentistry work?

Sedation Dentistry | Edina M At 50th and France Dental Care, we understand that not all of our patients enjoy going to the dentist. In fact, many feel fear and anxiety about it.

We never want fear to deter you from getting the high quality dentistry you need. For this reason, we offer two convenient options for dental sedation.

Nitrous oxide is a breathable gas administered through a mask worn during your procedure. It works quickly to help you relax and feel at ease, and it leaves your system as soon as the mask is removed. This means you'll be able to drive yourself home and resume your normal activities. Nitrous can be used for any type of procedure, and it's also safe for children.

Oral conscious sedation offers a deeper sedation that allows us to complete multiple treatment procedures at one time if necessary. It's administered through a pill taken one hour prior to your treatment, and while you'll still remain conscious and responsive, you'll feel totally relaxed, have little to no memory of your appointment, and may even feel like you were asleep. Due to the nature of the medication, you'll need to find transportation to and from your appointment, and you should plan to rest and relax after your procedure.
