Sedation Dentistry to Ensure Your Comfort
Talk to us about sedation dentistry options that can alleviate anxiety and increase your comfort while you are sitting in the dental chair. We have used sedation dentistry to help hundreds of patients overcome their dental anxiety. We offer our patients nitrous oxide—also known as laughing gas—as well as oral conscious sedation. Both of these options are designed to put you at ease and will make your entire dental experience a positive one!
Sedation Dentistry Options
Nitrous oxide is a gas that provides a mild form of sedation. It is breathed in—much like oxygen would be—and when patients inhale it, they feel an immediate relaxing effect. Some patients might even feel giddy while under the influence of nitrous oxide; hence the nickname of “laughing gas.” One of the nice things about nitrous oxide is that it enters and leaves the body quickly. After the mask is put on, you will start feeling the effect of the nitrous almost immediately; when we remove the mask, the effects will almost immediately stop. With nitrous, you are free to drive yourself home after your appointment without any kind of impairment.
For deeper dental sedation, oral conscious sedation is available. It comes in the form of a sedative your dentist will prescribe for you to take about 30 to 60 minutes prior to your appointment. You will feel very relaxed and calm, but you will still be able to speak to and respond to the dentist. Because the effects of oral sedation can last for several hours after you take the medication, you will need someone to drive you to and from your dental appointment.
