Gone are the days when you have to make numerous trips to your dentist when you need a dental crown. With CEREC® technology, we can create and place a dental restoration in just one visit to our Edina dental office.
But are CEREC crowns as strong as traditional crowns? Let’s find out.
What Is a CEREC Same-Day Crown?
CEREC technology uses digital impressions of your mouth to customize crowns in our dental office while you wait comfortably in your treatment room.
Our 3-D digital software makes it possible to skip the temporary crown and create beautiful dental crowns that match your smile, giving you a seamless appearance. No one will know you have a crown!
You’ll be amazed at how natural your new crown will look and feel, and you can bite down and chew without worry.
What’s the Procedure Like?
Here’s how the CEREC same-day process works:
- First, we’ll numb your mouth before removing any decay. We’ll also prepare your tooth for the new crown.
- Next, we’ll take digital impressions, and the computer software creates a virtual model of your mouth.
- Then, we’ll use this model to design your crown before sending the information to our in-office milling machine.
- The machine will carve your crown from a solid ceramic block, and we’ll use dental cement to bond it to your tooth.
That’s it!
Are CEREC Crowns Strong?
Patients often ask us if our same-day crowns are as strong and reliable as traditional dental crowns, and the answer is yes! Same-day crowns usually last ten years or more, the same as conventional porcelain-over-metal crowns.
And because we use digital imaging to customize your CEREC crown, you can expect a snug fit, helping you avoid tooth decay between your natural tooth and crown.
